N-Back Test of Working Memory

In the WiltonLogic version of the n-back test, the participant is shown a series of response locations. These are illuminated in a randomized manner as shown in the picture. The number of presentations in this sequence can vary, so that the participant does not know when they will be challenged to use the information they are storing. Once the sequence is complete, a choice test takes place, when all the locations are illuminated. In the 1-back test, the participant must then touch the last location in the sequence, in the 2-back test, they must touch the penultimate location, and in the 3-back test, the third from last. To increase the cognitive load, the number of response locations can be increased from four as shown in the picture to eight. The percentage of correct response at each level and the choice reaction times can be collected.
